About this deal

My critique is that it seems to be all over the place for age ranges - it says it is geared toward tweens and teens, but parts seemed written for much younger children. All these words mean something very similar and they all refer to that uncomfortable feeling we get when we are uncertain or afraid of somethingunknown. Through a period of some significant challenge, the services offered by Anxiety UK has been fantastic, and whilst there is a long road head, progress is positive and forward. It is also a valuable stress management resource for those working with young people, including mental health practitioners, youth workers, social workers and education sector staff. The book is aimed primarily for young people to work through independently, or with adult support, but would also be a helpful resource for many professionals working with children and young people who may be experiencing anxiety.

Although the book itself states it is for youth aged 10+, the book is most appropriate for older teens. Part of the award-winning Starve the Gremlin series and full of engaging activities, this self-help workbook explains what exam stress is, how it develops and the impact it can have - providing the reader with an understanding of their own exam stress. They were also super helpful when unfortunately our schedules didn't align, and I was matched with a therapist with availability that matched mine. Based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles that link thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, the activities help young people aged 10+ understand why they get anxious and how to use simple, practical techniques to manage their anxiety.Activities and worksheets are provided throughout the book offering different creative strategies, and the book would also be very beneficial to use as an adjunct to small group discussions. This engaging workbook uses fun activities and real life stories, and can be used by young people aged 10+ on their own or with a parent or practitioner. To help yourself, first you need to identify it is anxiety you are feeling, and accept that it’s OK not to feel OK.

Kate Collins-Donnelly has worked as a therapist, psychologist, criminologist and anger management consultant based in the UK for many years.I'm about a third the way through a 16-week program and the benefits and rewards are already coming through. I also liked the interactivity in the book, although it was near impossible to do this with a Kindle.

This workbook is designed to teach practical strategies, based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy principles (CBT), for taming and starving one’s anxiety. I can't recommend Anxiety UK enough as they were a godsend to me while I waited on my psychology Appointment with NHS which took over a year.Starving the Anxiety Gremlin is a well-written comprehensive workbook that helps readers identify the sources of their anxiety and learn effective ways of coping.
