About this deal

I really love this truly beautifully written way of retelling God's story for children and as a long standing christian and Sunday School teacher it has affected me greatly.

She is the author of three bestselling children's Bibles, including the Moonbeam Award winner and ALA notable The Jesus Storybook Bible, as well as Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing, winner of the ECPA Inspirational Book award. Or the time, after spending the night in a brothel, I tore the city gates from their hinges and carried them off? A Bible like no other, The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the centre of God’s great story of salvation and at the centre of their Story too. Her books include: How to be a Baby, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year; Goldfish on Vacation, “brimming with gladness” according to The Wall Street Journal; Look!

It's nearly impossible to read on a smartphone, even with the zoom feature, because the type is so small. Some commentators have mentioned that this book papers over sin and disobedience but it deals brilliantly with the worst consequence of sin in the first story, namely how it separated us from God. Not very religious myself but I think it's a great book and I'm actually finding it interesting to learn from it too!

For example, at the end of the story where Moses comes down from the mountain with the 10 Commandments to see the people with the golden calf the book says "No matter how hard the people tried they could never keep God's Rules all the time. It's a great addition to a children's Bible and I hope my kids will read it when they get old enough! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to discover for themselves the one who is at the center of God’s great rescue story — and at the center of their story, too. Each story is simply told and ends with a simple pointer as to how the story fits into the 'bigger story' of God's redemptive plan. I remember as a young pastor being asked by the director of children’s ministries in our church to help out in vacation Bible school by dressing up like an Old Testament character and telling the kids my story.

And Adam and Eve joined in the Song of the stars and the streams and the wind in the trees, the wonderful Song of love to the one who made them. As a bonus, children should be able to grow with this bible and progress to reading it aloud themselves once they reach school–age. Not only is each story as vividly illustrated as it is portrayed, but also each tale is telling one Big Story--the Story of Jesus. Did you ever wonder what Jacob’s face looked like the morning after his wedding night, when he woke up in bed with a different woman than the one he thought he had married — Leah instead of Rachel?

It is so true to the big narrative of the bible, retelling familiar stories in accessible language that gets to the heart of the story and leading us appropriately to the centre of the bible story - the person of Jesus - on every occasion. This would be an easy fix if they displayed only one page at a time, but being a children's book with pictures, they opted to display two at all times. The hard cover ensures it will last years, and the stories and illustrations passionate adults and children. Sally was born and raised in Africa, schooled in England and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and now lives in New York City. Lloyd-Jones was born in Kampala, Uganda and studied Art History with French at University of Sussex and Paris-Sorbonne University. The illustrations are gorgeous, stories engaging and easy for young kids to follow but not oversimplified.
