About this deal

Made using eleven carefully selected botanicals, the gin contrasts strong citrus flavours with a subtle spicy finish that still manages to be unlike anything made elsewhere in the world. Gins produced in the southern tropical regions of Okinawa combine the woodsy flavor of juniper with local fruits like shikuwasa and kabosu. Japanese gin represents the fusion of traditional distillation methods with a deep respect for the local flora, yielding a spirit that is both familiar and strikingly new.

Etsu is a Japanese Gin, distilled in Hokkaido using a series of distinctly Japanese botanicals, including tea leaves and yuzu, and a few more traditional ones. Roku, which translates as "six" in Japanese, is the House of Suntory's distinctly Japanese craft gin.The first gin from Japan's legendary Suntory distillery, Roku Gin, is simply a must-have for gin fans. As well as traditional botanicals of juniper, citrus and coriander seeds, they may also use local ingredients such as yuzu, cherry blossom and green tea. To avoid these issues, we would recommend using a different browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. These six Japanese botanicals have been carefully selected to create ROKU, Japan's authentic craft gin. Etsu Double Yuzu Gin is distilled at the Akita Distillery, in the Akita prefecture of Japan on Honshu Island.

Crowned with the secret ingredient: a splash of distilled Akashi-Tai’s Junmai sake that mellows the heat of the sansho pepper. Each botanical has been harvested at the peak of its season to extract the best flavour, then distilled to fully embody the blessings of nature. Every aspect of Roku Gin is crafted by Japanese artisans with a centuries-old tradition of meticulous attention to detail. The six Japanese botanicals include Sakura leaf and Sakura flower for spring, Sencha tea (green tea) and Gyokuro tea (refined green tea) for summer, Sansho pepper for autumn and Yuzu peel for winter.

Similarly, the House of Suntory, known for its whiskies, crafts Roku gin, which means "six," a reference to its six uniquely Japanese botanicals.

As opposed to the barley or wheat used in classic gins, Japanese gin may be distilled using rice or corn, which comes from the process of making shochu or whisky. This status is quite unlike bourbon, which must be made in the United States and must include 51% corn. Since Yamazaki was awarded World's Best Whiskey in 2015, Japanese whisky has become the spirit for the world's more discerning drinkers. While gin is predominantly associated with England and Netherlands, many countries are producers of gin and Japan is no exception.

Distillers, already adept at producing high-quality whisky, turned their attention to gin, applying their precision and dedication to this botanical spirit. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.Delicately floral, perfectly balanced with the crisp refreshing tea flavours, I think this is my new favourite gin! The production of Japanese gin benefits from the unique climate and the distinct four seasons that the country experiences – but it’s the use of botanicals that is perhaps most notable to the consumer.
