In this piercing and unforgettable memoir, laced with bleak irony and heartrending honesty, Alix tackles these questions and confronts a harsh reality: that the younger brother he once adored not only deceived their own family for decades, but destroyed another with his truly heinous crime. Campbell claimed to have been in another part of Essex on the morning Danielle disappeared, but expert analysis of his mobile phone showed that could not be true. Of course, this isn't ever a book you could say you enjoyed, purely for the nature of the crime, but it was a captivating read which was well written.

This hard hitting memoir for the brother of convicted killer was an eye-opening account of his life growing up in an abusive environement and how this could have contributed to the path that his brother took.

Alix and his sister both grew up to have successful careers, Stuart entered a life of criminality at a young age. Campbell denied any involvement in her disappearance, claiming to have been in another part of Essex on the morning Danielle disappeared, but expert analysis of his mobile phone showed that could not be true. What an insightful book that didn't require the epilogue to tell us just how much it must have taken the author to reach back into the past and rake over his early life with his brother. This is the story through the eyes of Campbell’s brother Alix Sharkey, as he unpicks how his charismatic younger brother – who he once adored, turned into one of the UK’s most infamous criminals. But I realize it was the author's way of trying to find some answers in their past that could account for his brother's crimes. As I began reading this book, I tried to recollect the circumstances around Danielle's disappearance, but it wasn't until I googled her and saw her picture that I remembered her from all those years before. On 18th June 2001, Danielle Jones was abducted, sparking the largest and most expensive investigation ever mounted by Essex Police.
