If you’re new to looping in general, it’s important to get the beat right. Count to yourself, practice your rhythm for a while, and make sure to tap the footswitch on the beat, or else your loop might sound a bit off. This is an important tip, so I’ll share it with you. With the fourth small (memory) button you can modify the settings for a recorded loop, among other things. Run a 1/4″ instrument cable from the “output” to the “Return” on the amplifier’s effects loop, then run a 1/4″ instrument cable from the “input” of the pedal to the “Send” on the amplifier’s effects loop. The BeatBuddy is a superior rhythm pedal and the RC-5 is a superior looper pedal than the RC-10R. You can sync both pedals via MIDI, so they can act as one.

Like its predecessor, the RC-5 has a very compact and lightweight case and a mine design. It has exactly the same dimension as the RC-3 with 7.3 cm width and 12.9 cm depth, but with a height of 5.6 cm, the RC-5 is slightly smaller than the predecessor model. The weight has remained exactly the same at 450 grams and downright invites you to take the device along in your gig bag. Like many other reviewers, my only prior experience with a looper has been with the RC-1. It is a very good pedal and I highly recommend it as a starter pedal and/or for the loop-curious who aren't sure if a loop station is what they need. This way, you can practice your loop to the rhythm, and then hit the footswitch again to start recording. That helps me catch the downbeats more accurately, so my loop always stays in time, and I can record a full phrase with no issues. Stereo inputs and outputs: All BOSS Loop Stations support mono or stereo inputs and outputs. This is great if you run a stereo rig, but it can be a great way to experiment with looping different instruments together.
