We visit tea gardens all over the world to find the best teas for our English Breakfast. Our favourites are the leaves grown up in the Sri Lankan highlands. They give this blend a great depth of flavour and make for a truly great cup of tea. Professional tasters become excellent blenders, not just by tasting 36 teas in a row every day but by cultivating the ability to recognize thousands of flavors and fine notes within each tea. In the humid Sri Lankan hills, the process of oxidation takes up to four hours, during which the leaves turn copper brown and the tea's unique fragrance starts to unfurl. This process also ensures that the steeping liquid is strong and flavourful. Our English Breakfast tea has a grade of BOP/FBOP. English breakfast "my get out of bed brew. Many excellent boutique tea houses specialize in orthodox and single-estate teas and do not offer blends. The leaves for our Great Taste award-winning Ceylonbreakfast tea are harvested all year round in Sri Lanka's celebrated Dimbulaand Nuwara Eliya tea regions, located at 1,448m and 1,868m above sea level, respectively. This is where artisan producers have farmed the plantations for more than 150 years, taking advantage of the mountainous terrain and monsoon-affected climate. Here, cool blustery blasts blow through the valleys, rainfall is high and frosts can be seen in winter, which places a measure of stress on the tea plants. Adding herbal tea could be considered cheating when it comes to making a best tea list, but we’ve given it an honourable mention anyway. While they might be better classed as infusions rather than tea, as they’re so popular, we’ve still included them in our list below. What are the different forms tea can take? Longer steep will extract more caffeine and stronger flavor. Your tea should never be unpleasantly bitter, only slightly astringent. Some blends may contain different flavor notes, such as chocolate, wood, caramel or molasses. Milk should enhance the flavor and offer a new experience, rather than cover the bitterness of tea.
