About this deal

When buying a cantilever umbrella, it helps to see one already assembled and see if the size of the base, pole, and canopy fit together harmoniously. There should be a balance to ensure that the umbrella is stable. Featuring six heights and angles to choose from, this cantilever parasol is also one of the most versatile on this list. Able to create coverage from the sun no matter the time of day, the 360° rotation also means that the large 3 x 3 m canopy can be turned to cover a large majority of the garden.

As we said, with the base filed properly, you get a nice, stable, parasol, but there is something that might annoy a few of you. Because of the design, and it is a common one, that allows you to move the canopy throughout the day, the canopy will ‘spin’ in the wind. We found this with more than a few of the products we tested, and it is a small annoyance, but nothing terrible. Let me tell you about this hidden gem of a cantilever parasol that is that affordable; I thought the price was an error at first. Spoiler alert, it turns out it wasn’t – the Mayfair 3m x 3m Cantilever Parasol. This parasol is not only beautifully built but also has an amazing price point that I just touched on a few seconds ago. It’s somewhere between the Jarder and Purple Leaf cantilever parasols in terms of quality, probably closer to the Purple leaf parasol, but its price is closer to the more affordable Jarder Cantilever Parasol. Honestly, it could easily retail at double the price, and I would still be more than happy to pay for it. Also, patio umbrellas are not built to withstand very strong winds. For safety, take down the umbrellas during severe weather. Consider investing in a protective cover to further extend the life of the outdoor umbrella. Conclusion You’ll want to look for a model with UV protection, with a rating of at least UPF 30+. Consider a parasol that offers UPF 50+ if you want increased protection for your family . Most parasol canopies are made from heavyweight polyester, and you should aim for a polyester that is minimum 180 g/m ² . Take note of these considerations, especially if your preference is to bolt down the base directly. Pre-made holes will make installation more convenient.

high, 3.3m wide polyester cover, UV40+ protection, moisture-proof, firm base, lightweight and portable. Sometimes, the lights aren’t the problem at all, it’s the quality and stability of the parasol itself. I mean, what’s the point of having decent lights when the parasol is tipped over in a slight breeze and the lights or solar panels end up damaged? Not everyone has hundreds of pounds to spend on a cantilever parasol, and even if they do, it doesn’t mean they want to part ways with that much, especially if they only want something to use every now and again. Operating the Jarder Libra is fairly simple. The canopy opening and closing is easy to work out and you won’t need instructions (thank God, as they aren’t exactly great!) and changing the angle of the tilt is no problem either. Rotating the canopy on its central axis does take a little more time, as you have to loosen screws, but it only takes minutes with a bit of practice.

There are eight ribs holding up the canopy, which is the standard amount. This ensures that the canopy is stable and can resist the elements better. The pole is made from powder-coated iron to resist rust. For a bit more pizzazz and function, some parasols have lights for illumination. The little lights look great at night and create an air of romance. The Greenbay Cantilever Parasol With Solar LED Lights is one such model. One thing to bear in mind is the size of the base with weights: at 100 x 100 cm it might be a little large for some spaces, especially if required to fit around patio furniture, so it’s worth taking measurements before purchasing, especially if you’re working with a smaller space. However, you can get most of the benefits of a standing cantilever parasol without having to worry about how heavy the base is, or if it will get blown down during the night, by installing a wall-mounted model instead.

Both of these things happen because the supporting pole of a standard parasol is located in the middle of it, and as most of these products are meant to be popped through the middle of your table, it’s the table itself that gets most of the protection from the sun. This often leaves the people sitting around said table half shaded and half exposed, often leading to some very funny looking tan lines! Well, funny for other people, anyway. Not so much the victim. Plus, the parasol can rotate up to 360 degrees without any hassles, in this view; you can easily set it in the direction of the sun or rain. And besides, the 250 x 250 cm dimension of the cover is large enough to form all-round protection for you and your family.Sitting under a garden parasol doesn’t guarantee sun protection unless it has a specific UPF rating like the CHRISTOW 3m Cantilever Umbrella.

One other thing to be aware of is how much space the base with weights attached will take up – it measures over 1 m across, so it’s worth being sure that you have the room to accommodate this. These items can be bought separately, or, if you buy your parasol as part of a ‘set’, like the Jarder Libra Parasol Set, you’ll get them all together. If you need something simple yet elegant to keep you and your family covered from the sun, then you should consider the GardenKraft 14810 3m Cantilever Banana Parasol. With its 3m wide canopy, you can count on full shade coverage, allowing room for as many friends as you’re allowed to bring round. The parasol is made with six sturdy ribs to support the canopy and as well prevent the canopy from collapsing during extreme weather condition, the British wind as we know it. Also, the crank handle present on the parasol makes it very easy to close or open, so you can start shielding yourself and your family without any delay. Aluminium is a lightweight metal that’s strong and durable. It’s easy to move around and can stand up to British weather. However, umbrella stands made of this metal need to be firmly anchored down on their bases (sandbags, concrete stones, etc.) and are known to wave about in winds, even medium force winds. The benefit of buying a set is that these items can be quite expensive when bought separately. Therefore, a set can help keep costs low. Furthermore, if you buy these items separately, you have to go to the extra effort of making sure they all fit your parasol correctly. In a set, compatibility is ensured.Consider how many angle settings the umbrella can have. Some brands only offer a 90-degree adjustment rate, while others can go as high as 360 degrees. When a parasol’s canopy does not have UV protection, the sun’s rays could still be harming your skin through the umbrella. The majority of the best cantilever parasols that I have reviewed in this list have a 3 m canopy. This is quite common, and is a generous size. It gives enough shade for several people to sit comfortably under. Of course, if you can angle the canopy, you can create a longer shadow and more shade, which is a plus. Cantilever Parasols are great for protecting us from the sun in hot weather. This much we know. But, of course, we’re also aware that the weather in the UK isn’t always reliably fair. No matter how heavy a base is on a cantilever parasol, you won’t be able to stop it being affected by the wind, so you have to use a bit of common sense and not try to sit out there if the gusts are getting a bit strong. More expensive models like those from Purple Leaf are better at handling the blustery UK weather, but even they have their limits, and lower cost parasols like this one and the Vounot are more susceptible, so keep that in mind.
