For a very attractive price point of AED 299, the JBL Wave 300TWS offers a compact design, good build quality, easy pairing, very good sound quality and is very intuitive to use. Definitely go for it, if you are in the market for a budget-friendly pair of wireless earbuds that offer very good audio performance.

Switching between these functions can be accomplished through iCUE settings or by a simple combination of pressing the Fn key and F12 key. A colour indicator on the F12 key conveniently displays which action is currently active. The mic offers solid intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone 8, we could easily understand every word we recorded, and while there was some typical Bluetooth distortion fuzzing up the edges, it wasn’t overwhelming and the mic signal was relatively strong. Conclusions

The JBL Headphones app for Android and iOS adds another layer of functionality. There’s a 10-band EQ with various presets that can be adjusted, or you can simply create your own, or disable all EQ. You can also use Ambient Aware or TalkThru modes in the app by tapping icons on the screen, and you can customize swipe-based gestures on the earpieces to either enable/disable these modes (or disable the swipe gesture if you wish). In TalkThru mode, you hear your surroundings through the ambient mics and music volume is lowered significantly; in Ambient Aware mode, the mics are enabled but music volume remain the same. Opening the charging case reveals the wireless earbuds, which are very good in design and build quality. The charging case and the earbuds though are quite lightweight. On the rear of the charging case is where you will find the USB-C port. It is the function of finding the buds if misplaced. Enable the “Find My Buds” feature with tapping the Left or/and Right earbud(s) to locate them until start beeping. Once you’ve found your earbuds, you can stop beeping within the app, tapping the same as you locate them. Please note that it works within 8 meters distance and is run by Bluetooth connectivity only, not GPS. The JBL Live 300TWS's shortfall in sound quality, especially in terms of bass weight, makes an otherwise good design difficult to recommend for those wanting a great-sounding set of in-ears at this level. The battery life is also slightly underwhelming, at a claimed six hours from the buds (compared to 10 hours from the Reflect Flows) plus 14 hours for the case. You get a maximum 20 hours in total before needing a power source, but thanks to the USB-C charger, when you do juice up you can get a one-hour boost in just 10 minutes. The earbuds also do not offer Active Noise Cancellation. However, they are very comfortable to wear and are easier on the ears since they sit on the outer area of the ear canal. The positivity of this earbud design is that it allows you to hear external sounds better without the need for ANC transparency mode.

The problem with this tuning is that it assumes the audio engineers didn’t previously apply corrections to the recordings. Theoretically, this means that properly amplified bass notes are rendered too loud, and this kind of frequency response can and does result in auditory masking. Lows, mids, and highs Yes. This can be done through Settings > Auto-off in the JBL Headphones App. The Auto-off function controls after how much time of inactivity the headphones are switched off. Time can be adjusted to 15min, 1hr etc. or set to “Never” if you prefer your earbuds to be always on. Once you set the Auto-off time, the earbuds will work according to this setting whether they are connected or disconnected to Bluetooth. Yes, however the JBL Headphones App gives you another level of control over the headphones. Through the app, you can personalize the performance of the headphones such as: varying levels of the ambient aware, creating custom eq settings, and turning features on or off.Select the Power Saving option to allow your earbuds to go in standby when not used for more than 15 minutes. If you select Auto Power Off, they will automatically switch off if not used for a set period of time. Yes. By using the JBL Headphones App you can change the equalization settings of the headphone to fit your personal taste. You can adjust the setting of each frequency to create your own personalized EQ. The JBL Reflect Flow Pro has a 30-hour battery life (earbuds and case combined), and the case supports wireless charging. The standalone battery life of the REFLECT FLOW PRO is nearly double the LIVE 300, coming in at 10 hours. Each earbud houses a 6.8mm dynamic driver tuned to the JBL house sound, which is generally pleasing to most listeners. What really makes the REFLECT FLOW PRO standout is its earphones’ IP68 rating, which makes them nearly impervious to dust and water.

You can also perform other functions like locating your earbuds, switching on Ambient Aware and TalkThru modes, and reading instructions on how to operate the headset. It’s actually quite a good app when it works for more than two minutes at a time. The earbuds stay connected to my phone thanks to the Bluetooth 5.0 firmware, though there are some intermittent connection hiccups that happen inside and outside. You can listen in mono mode, but only with the right bud as that’s the default primary receiver, which doesn’t take into account those with left ear hearing impairments. These hiccups occur with firmware version 3.3.0, so later versions may have remedied this.

The JBL Live 300TWS is not pitched as a sports in-ear, but it’s still a little disappointing to see an IPX5 rather than IPX7 rating. You’re unlikely to be submerging these headphones in water for 30 minutes, but the previous model carried the fully-waterproof certification rather than a sweat/splash-proof rating, meaning you needn’t worry about accidentally dropping them in a puddle. They sound good, but everything under the sun sets these off. A drop of sweat, a drop of rain, a slight breeze past your year and one of more of the gestures are triggered, but when you actually want to use a gesture, nothing!. Your constantly interrupted by Bixby (also the the worst thing ever made, yes I know that's 2 worst things). There is no way to turn the gestures off. These are completely useless! The JBL WAVE 300TWS earbuds come certified with the IPX2 rating. This is unusually low for earbuds because this rating does not offer a good amount of protection from either sweat or water. We play with the option of altering the volume using the right bud, but because you don’t actually depress the button on the earpiece, it’s hard to know if you’re pressing correctly. Ultimately, we find it too fiddly to use, which means we’d still prefer to root around in our bag for our phone. You can always change your Voice Assistant later, selecting Settings > Voice Assistant, and choosing your preferred voice assistant.
