Colour or not, they operate in the same way and provide extra functionality. For example, you can change the handle language, change the colour of the smart ring or even reset the brush. All iO models have a reminder system built into the app and the brush handle. How this reminder is displayed differs.
Just wanted to thank you for the in depth review. I do find Oral brand very confusing, It feels like they are flooding the market to ensure customers are as confused as they can be so they either buy the most expensive or the cheapest.

The iO5 comes with a travel case and a refill holder that holds and protects 2 brush heads. The iO4 does not come with this. A more budget-friendly version of the iO Series 9 that cuts no important corners
The Smart 6’s brush head holder is a moulded piece of plastic that clips around the charging stand and offers up 2 prongs. The brush heads then sit on these. It keeps them upright and they do not touch, but they are not covered like they are with the compartment with the 9000, which can accommodate up to 4 brush heads. Extra modes can potentially provide benefits for some people, particularly those with an oral healthcare goal in mind. A feature available with Oral-B’s Bluetooth enabled or ‘smart’ toothbrushes is something called ‘Dental Care Journeys’. Activated as soon as you power the brush on at 30 second intervals, the brush motor momentarily pauses. The sound and brushing sensation change. This is your notification to move to the next section of your mouth. Come 2 minutes, the alert is 3 momentary pauses. Hear this and you’ve brushed for the recommended minimum time.
