About this deal

Now that Auren is back with Midas, everything she has seen and learned over the last several weeks (in Gild and Glint) is making her question the last 10 years she's spent as his gold-touched saddle. I don’t even know how I waited these three days to finish the book but I just knew shit was about to go down in the last 20%. Not that I expect the author to suddenly make Slade the bad guy, but come on girl - did you learn nothing?

These confrontations produce frank realisations and revelations that have been sitting underneath someones skin, unvoiced and unheard. One taste, and if it was an act of selfishness, then you should know, it certainly wasn’t one-sided, Auren. it makes the stakes feel much higher because i never knew how they were going to interact with each other or how the situation would play out.

But as time passes and she gets to know some of the soldiers and Rip, she becomes torned between her loyalty to Midas and the friendships she begins to form with some soldiers, such as Lu. Having that ripped away from her, even if it was at her own doing, has been a bit of an adjustment and I really liked seeing Lu in particular, continue to interact with her. I go completely still as he moves his hand and grips my chin, like he wants to make sure I'm paying attention. The ending was perfection and I would have it no other way actually maybe if Midas suffered even more.

Overall, a great continuation in the series (my favourite so far) and I will move on to ‘Glow’ next before I have to wait 6 months for ‘Gold’ to be released. He’s manipulating her into corners, forcing her to bend to him by guilt tripping and threats and when he realises that his placating and soft and kind words don’t work on Auren anymore…. Whether she makes you laugh or cry, or whether the series is about a cupid or a gold-touched woman living in King Midas's castle, she hopes to create characters that readers can root for. We tell ourselves twisted lies to tangle around or wicked truths, all so that we can get caught in the bind and not have to face bare regrets. The gold may not have been Malina’s doing or taste but she’s a symbol and she’s made herself a target in more ways than one. Queen Malina still has a few chapters in this book, and honestly, I found them as boring as the ones in Glint. I figure the my biggest issue was that Auren was back with Midas and I hate that guy with a passion. To be able to break free from a manipulator, you have to understand how it works (I speak from personal experience). At the beginning, men would pay to be with the beautiful "painted girl", and they saw her as an object, not a person.

I mentioned that there is a lot of sexual tension and also some angst between Auren and Slade, but we can also see that it's more than just sexual attraction between them.

I understand toxic and abusive relationships and maybe if this had actually been written with any ounce of effort it could show that but it just shows a weak and powerless man abusing an extremely powerful woman for NO REASON. She went from this helpless, manipulated, abused girl to this empowered woman who put an end to her abuser in the most incredible, glorious way possible.

She finally knows her worth and sees Midas for the person he really is, while still being a kind-hearted person. Trotz der sensiblen Themen dieses Buches verliert es begleitet von Aurens Humor nicht seine Leichtigkeit. warnings: mentions of human trade and sexual slavery, captivity, emotional manipulation, physical and psychological abuse, and drug consumption. Auren humiliates Midas and doesn’t obey him so he gets angry and makes Ravinger’s Commander carry Auren to the harp to play all night. She was a tyrant in all but name and I didn't want to continue on with her side plot, but alas I am not in charge of anything.
